It’s #WeAreModern Wednesday, which means it’s time to spotlight another member of our magnificent MODERN team. Meet Jim Whiteman, electrical engineering manager. Jim joined Modern Machinery in 1997. He brings 40 years of experience and expertise to his role, helping interpret customers’ ideas for their dream machines into actual plans to make them come true.
“I’ve been in this field of work since 1985, when I graduated from Central Michigan University with a B.S. in industrial technology and a minor in computer science.
“There’s no such thing as a typical day, which is part of what I like. There’s no time to get bored with doing the same old thing! I delegate work assignments along with design projects. This includes creation of bill of materials, drawings and programming. I work with customers, from concept to design to building of their machines, and I support them at their facility with training and startup troubleshooting.
“I enjoy challenge and every day here brings challenges my way. Sometimes, it takes research for a couple of days to find solutions to satisfy a customer’s needs. Each job has something to be proud of when completed.
“My wife Cindi and I have two sons and a daughter. They are all married and we have two grandsons, ages three and one. My favorite activities outside of work are hunting, motorcycles and spending time with our children and grandkids. My home and work families do overlap since our son Ryan works here at MODERN with me but in the mechanical engineering department. It’s been a pleasure being able to witness his growth in this industry. He deserves all the credit for what he has accomplished.”
